Money Money money

Money is the key to an enterprise like this -  and being able to manage it , and financial stuff, cards bank accounts etc - oh and a mobile phone , oh what problems not having a phone is.

To be honest in this day and age unless you are young and fancy free there is a whole infrastructure you need to manage to support your self . Its not easy. I was in the Motorhome rental office. For some reason they cant give you a quote like a car hire company they need 24 hours (online) Trev at Apollo said he would phone me with the quote . I suggested he test he could phone me. He couldn't , he tried his mobile and got a message that my phone wasn't accepting calls!! Surely that's for me to decide.

He gave us directions to woolworths 5km away in Sorrell. I bought a phone $49 and $20 credit. We drove back to the rental company. trev had the quote ready and it was so good we grabbed it even though he spent 10 more minutes going through it.

I have a hire car for the first 2 weeks £385 but there is room and food . The camper van will be a mobile home and we can supply our own food . Campsite costs will be extra . But overall its probably cheaper. BUT no internet and you do need that. Not just for blogs ,and keeping in contact but for banking , managing money sorting travel. You also need a working phone. It aint easy.

2 days on the road , gales and incessant rain but empty motels and hotels and tourist sites to ourselves so make your choice. If you do anything like this in peak you need to book ahead and have a schedule

OH before the pics another couple of top tips

1 Buy a sat nav, cheaper than renting. Mine covers Aus and NZ so double whammy.
2 Campervan companies charge you for linen (not Apollo bless their little cotton socks) so if that is the case consider buying a sleeping bag . It wont have had 800 other people using it and it will be clean which the stuff from backpackers wasn't

Tesselated rocks from dino days

stayed here opposite tessellated paving Hotel lufta . Bit expensive at $130 I thought. Cold and when I asked if they had WiFi he said yes and explained why it might be intermittent. I never got on it but the view was stunning
